Times Publishing Limited and its subsidiaries, collectively known as Times Publishing Group, is one of the premier media groups in Asia-Pacific highly regarded for its dedication to four core competencies – publishing, printing, distribution and retail. 2019

Marshall Cavendish Education joined the ranks of top publishers, and is the first Asian-based publisher to become one of the four endorsement partners by Cambridge Assessment International Education.

Times Publishing acquired 60% stake in Print Lab, an integrated marketing and print solutions provider which help strengthen our foothold in the growing integrated marketing and print solution market.

Hallmark distribution was expanded beyond Malaysia, into Singapore and Hong Kong.

Times Printers entered strategic partnership with Singapore Press Holdings to collaborate on commercial print services.

2018

Times Publishing acquired Times Distribution, a leading trade book distributor in Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei, with exclusive relationships with publishing powerhouses.

2017

We rolled out Times Experience, an event organiser with events centred on ways to enhance a child’s learning experience beyond the classroom and Goguru, Times bookstore’s e-commerce portal.

2016

Marshall Cavendish continued its push into the international educational publishing market and added South Africa, Spain and Colombia to our global footprint of over 60 countries, while making further inroads into the UK with strong school adoptions.

2015

Marshall Cavendish Education made a major impact in the UK via our strategic partnership with Oxford University Press. The Inspire Maths series has been selected for use across the UK by the Department of Education and the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics.

Times bookstores launched a refreshing and exciting new lifestyle concept bookstore at Marina Square on 3 September, designed to further enhance our customers’ in-store shopping experience. It embodies our new position as a family-oriented, children-focused lifestyle book retailer.

2014

In line with the Ministry of Education's focus on a quality education enriched with digital technology, Marshall Cavendish Education's online eShop was launched on 18 November 2014. With just a few clicks of a button, our eBooks are now available for purchase online.

Marshall Cavendish Education was appointed as the sole textbook publisher for Primary Science. Our Science materials are used by all public Primary Schools in Singapore from 2014 onwards.

Marshall Cavendish Education is the first Asian-based publisher to be awarded the tender by the Ministry of Education, Chile to provide Mi Matematica, a new Primary Maths series to all public schools in Chile in 2014.

2013

Our Printing division won various print awards for excellence in printing: Asian Print Awards 2013, HP Print Excellence Awards 2013 and Sinar Mas Print Awards 2013.

Since 2013, Marshall Cavendish Education's e-learning platform was adopted by majority of Singapore's primary schools.

Musicway Corporation, our Australian entity for the lifestyle distribution business was appointed an exclusive Australian distributor for the Thule brand of luggage and accessories.

In 2013, Fraser and Neave, Limited (parent company of Times Publishing Group) became a part of Thailand's TCC Group, which is engaged in food and beverage, real estate, industrial trading and consumer products, insurance and agriculture.

2012

Marshall Cavendish Education, Chile, and Marshall Cavendish Institute, Chile were officially launched in October 2012, further reinforcing our global presence.

Marshall Cavendish Education launched our latest syllabuses of both print and digital textbooks based on a blended learning approach, which seamlessly integrate face-to-face teaching and learning and online learning.

Times Newslink was awarded agreement contract for 9 news, books and convenience stores in Changi Airport.

2011

JCS Digital Solutions Pte Ltd was fully acquired to accelerate the Group's foray into digital print solutions.

Math Buddies, a flexible, online learning platform developed by Marshall Cavendish specifically to support the teaching of Singapore Math in the United States, was officially launched at the NCTM Regional Conference in Atlantic City.

2010

Times bookstores expanded its retail footprint by opening two new outlets at Suntec City and Paragon shopping mall in Singapore.

2009

'Math in Focus', a Maths programme jointly developed by Marshall Cavendish and global educational publisher, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt was adopted by Lexington, the second largest city in the US state of Kentucky.

Times Travel concept stores were launched at Singapore Changi Airport.

2008

The Group acquired 51% shareholding interest in JCS Digital Solutions Pte Ltd which is complementary to the printing business.

The Group acquired Learning Edvantage Pte Ltd, a market leader provider of e-learning needs to schools and institutions.

The Group acquired Summertown Publishing Limited, a specialist language learning publisher for professional and business English.

2007

The series – Earlybird Kindergarten Mathematics Standards Edition and Primary Mathematics Standards Edition for grades 1 to 5 – published by Marshall Cavendish were adopted by the US state of California.

Times Bookstores opened its flagship store in Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Group divested its interest in Times Printers (Australia) Pty Ltd. and acquired interest in PMP Limited.

2006

The Group acquired Pacific Bookstores.

2005

The Group acquired the publishing business of SNP in Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. The acquisition is for the publishing of educational books and reference materials.

The Group donated 96 paintings, named Times Collections to National Heritage Board.

Educational Technologies Limited was acquired for the publishing, licensing and distribution of educational and children's publications in Latin America, Asia Pacific and the Gulf region.

2004

The Group's publishing business was rebranded to Marshall Cavendish and the new corporate brand identity was launched.

The Group acquired Pansing Distribution in Singapore and Malaysia, further strengthening its distribution capability.

Times Newslink, a joint venture between Times The Bookshop and Hachette Distribution services, acquired the WH Smith retail business in Singapore.

The Group established the Shanxi Xinhua Times Printing & Packaging plant in China.

The Group invested in Fung Choi Printing and Packaging plant in China.

2002

Vine Graphics was acquired to support the Group's expansion into packaging and printing.

The Group acquired Everbest Printing Holdings Limited, which provides commercial printing services from its base in Guangzhou, China.

TransQuest, a book distributor in Southeast Asia, was acquired to increase the Group's market share in book distribution.

2001

Argyle Times Graphics was acquired, making it the Group's first printing plant in Australia.

Shanghai Times SanYin Printers Co. Ltd was established; it is the first and largest Sino-foreign joint venture printing company in China.

The largest-ever Times The Bookshop retail outlet was opened at Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

2000

The Group opened Times Newslink, the largest bookshop at Singapore Changi International Airport, in a joint venture with Newslink of Australia.

The Group became a subsidiary of Fraser and Neave, Limited.

1998

Times Trade Directories Pte Ltd launched a new directory, Directory of Singapore Electronics Industries which is concurrently published in electronic format.

1997

Times Editions, in collaboration with Singapore Press Holdings Ltd, launched the book, Lee Kuan Yew: The Man And His Ideas.

1996

The partwork, Tree of Knowledge, was launched in Poland by Marshall Cavendish Partworks; its total lifetime sales to date is 150 million copies.

1992

Singapore-based Times Trade Directories provided the expertise to enable Federal Publications Malaysia to publish trade directories. Its first title, Malaysia Sourcebook for Architects and Designers, received encouraging response.

1991

Times Offset (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd was established; it is today the second largest commercial printer in Malaysia.

1990

Two subsidiary companies of the Group, Times Editions and Marshall Cavendish Corporation, jointly published Cultures of the World for the US market.

1989

The Group continued its expansion programme with the establishment of TPL Printers in the United Kingdom.

Our Australian subsidiary, Rainbow Products acquired Musicway Corporation, a major distributor of blank audio and video tapes and accessories.

The Group made its debut on the Singapore stock market on 17 March and closed among the day's top activities with 1.5 million shares traded.

1988

The Group became an independent company, allowing it to develop strategies appropriate to its core businesses separately from its former parent company Singapore Press Holdings.

1987

A joint-venture agreement was signed with Swiss media conglomerate, Ringier AG to establish a commercial printing company in Hong Kong. Times Ringier (HK) Ltd combines Ringier's technology and more than 150 years of printing experience with Times Publishing's knowledge of the region.

1986

One of Singapore's oldest and largest printers, Koon Wah Printing, joined the Times Publishing family.

STP Distributors (Direct Sales) secured the sole rights to distribute the first Chinese edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica.

1985

Times Trade Directories commenced operations; its portfolio includes the Times Business Directory of Singapore (Buku Merah), a publication that has been in print for over 100 years.

1984

The Group merged with The Straits Times Press Ltd and Singapore News and Publications Ltd to form Singapore Press Holdings Ltd, a S$1.4 billion publishing conglomerate.

Far East Publications, a subsidiary in Thailand, launched Thai editions of the world-famous Young Children's Encyclopaedia and the Britannica's Discovery Library.

The Times Editions imprint was established by the Group, jointly with Hachette Pacifique, for the publishing of high quality coffee table books.

1981

United Publishers Services of Japan was acquired by the Group.

1980

The Group acquired UK partworks publisher, Marshall Cavendish Ltd. This acquisition includes US-based subsidiaries, Marshall Cavendish Corporation and H.S. Stuttman, which publish and distribute multi-volume reference books and continuity sets by direct mail.

1978

The Times Books International imprint was established to mark a concerted move into the international book market.

Times The Bookshop opened its first retail outlet in Singapore.

The Group acquired a controlling stake in Far East Trade Press, the Hong Kong SAR publisher of periodicals such as Asian Business, Cargonews Asia and Travelnews Asia.

1975

The Group was reorganised with its parent company into 2 public companies, The Straits Times Press Ltd in the business of newspaper publishing, and Times Publishing in the non-newspaper publishing business as well as the printing and advertising sales for the newspapers. Collectively known as The Times Organisation, shares of both companies were listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange on 20 October.

1968

The Group was incorporated in Singapore as Times Publishing Sendirian Berhad, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Straits Times Press (Singapore) Ltd, and establishes itself as one of the pioneers of English language publishing in Singapore.

Federal Publications, an imprint (brand) of the Group, was launched. It is the leading publisher in Singapore and Malaysia of quality textbooks tailored for schools.
